Arbres d'avril 2010

This project is part of the En Avril - fibre textile art activities. The annual event was inspired by  the will to create a form of synergy surrounding this fascinting and multipurpose medium. It brings together organisations for education, production and distribution of  fibre and textile. The schedule is alive with cultural activities which bring to light fibre and textile topicality in contemporary arts, design and heritage throughout Quebec.

In 2010, la Maison des métiers d'art de Québec organised an exhibit in Parc St-Roch, inviting artists to build an installation incorporating the fragility of the trees, which are particularly vulnerable at this time of year. My installation, titled ZIP!, is composed entirely of zippers, used as a metaphor for the rhythm of my life at that time. The invention of the zipper was a time saver in comparison to the buttonhole. Quick as lightning,  you could close  a jacket or a fly. At the same time, I took the opportunity to highlight the triangular volumes present in the maple tree that housed my installation.
